New PSD Logo

There's a new PSD logo in town!  The PSD Board thought that after six years, it was way past time to revamp the old logo in order to better represent the new Downtown Brighton.  A lot has changed in the City - many more restaurants (thanks to the Development Area Liquor Licenses legislation passed a few years ago by the Legislature), more festivals and events coordinated by the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce, and a host of new shops, stores and offices - all of which translates into more people!  Luckily, the Downtown Development Authority has added over 125 new parking spaces to accommodate the increase, including the new West Street lot which opened in November 2011.

We will be rolling out the new logo shortly on the entire PSD website as time allows.  The new logo will also be used for banners on Main Street, billboards and print advertisements.  We're sure it will soon become as familiar to visitors and residents as the old logo.  We really like it and hope you do, too!

Mission Statement

" To Further Enhance Our Downtown Brighton Community Through Exciting and Progressive Marketing."

History

Old_City_Hall
In April of 2006 a Principal Shopping District (PSD) was created through City Council resolution. The PSD’s primary responsibilities were to promote Downtown Brighton. A nine member Board of Directors was appointed to oversee Downtown Brighton’s promotional efforts. Link Board Profile Coming Soon.

After meeting for a couple months, the PSD Board assembled a program and presented it to the City Council. The PSD’s goal was to secure an investment from the City to get promotional efforts started. The Board was successful and received a one-time investment of $100,000 to get things rolling while the Board worked to pass a special assessment. Although there was some opposition to the PSD in the beginning, attitudes changed as the downtown community saw what was being done with the City’s investment.

Strong support for the PSD’s hard work and the special assessment district (SAD) to help fund the PSD, led to the placement of an assessment raising approximately $78,000 per year on the Winter 2006 Tax Bill. The SAD was designed to sunset after three years, which it did.  Even though the SAD was discontinued, the PSD Board is still in place to continue the PSD's marketing and promotional efforts.

Brand

“Don’t miss out” was originally used in the PSD’s first promotional attempts that the PSD wanted to get out in the public prior to the 2006 Holiday Season. A Billboard was erected with the aforementioned message. It was originally thought that this would be temporary. To this day, “don’t miss out” has stuck. It had universal appeal and could be applied to many types of media.

Billboards

The evidence was overwhelming; the number of people that pass a particular point on America’s highway system per day is huge. In Downtown Brighton’s case, one particular point was being passed by over 42,000 people age 16 and over every day. A billboard was seen as the most cost effective way to reach countless potential customers.

Radio

In November 2006, the PSD Board launched an eight-week radio campaign on the local radio station. The campaign told customers not to miss out on the holiday shopping and dining opportunities in Downtown Brighton. It was also used to promote the Holiday Glow, an annual holiday event in downtown.

Radio continues to play a key part in promotional efforts.

Website

This website is the PSD Board’s crowning achievement to date. The Board wanted to create an environment where everything downtown could be found in one location. They wanted a place where the visitor could find out about the various shopping, dining, and service opportunities. Customers would also be able to learn about the many activities and events held throughout the year.

It was not only important for the visitor to find everything they need, but the investor as well. The PSD Board of Directors made it a top priority to provide the necessary information a potential investor may need to make an educated investment decision. The downtown website offers information about our customers, available property, recent investments, and so much more.
